About this region

Continental cold-winter climate — sub-boreal larch taiga grading into mountain steppe.

Khonin Nuga sits where northern Mongolian taiga meets mountain steppe. Siberian larch is the signature tree; on drier south-facing slopes, taiga gives way to grassland dotted with shrubs.

Wild edibles are dominated by hardy small fruits — sea buckthorn, wild currants, and rosehips — plus early greens along seasonal streams. Nomadic herding traditions have shaped a working knowledge of both browse and medicinal plants across the region.
